It was important once the drive-in opened again that protocols were put in place to ensure a healthy and safe movie experience for every customer. Audio for the movie is heard through a local FM radio signal that can be accessed in the customer’s car. With the help of other drive-in owners and staff, the second screen was able to be finished and painted by the second week of the 74 th season. This was especially hard on the business since no income had been coming in due to the delay.
Part of the second outdoor movie screen completely came down and needed to be fixed as soon as possible. “We eventually got an exemption by contacting our local government representative, but we still had to wait until May 15 to open when we usually open around the beginning of April.”Įven when things were looking bright with an eventual opening, Lynn Drive-In Movies was faced with structural damage when a huge windstorm blew in on April 7. “Since we were classified as a movie theater, we were immediately shut down before we even had our opening weekend,” says the owner of Lynn Drive-In Movies, Rich Reding. During its 75 years, it has seen many crazy things happen, but nothing could compare to the 74 th season when COVID-19 hit. It is the oldest drive-in in Ohio and the second oldest in the world. Lynn Drive-In has been a staple business in Strasburg, Ohio for nearly 75 years. To strike out blindly is exciting.“Come as you are in the family car,” can be heard when pulling into Ohio’s oldest drive-in movie theater, Lynn Drive-In Movies. There's just a desire to take a journey and to see where the hell it comes out. And I think if you operate on that, that criteria of just putting one foot in front of the other, taking it step by step and trusting in the fact that it's going to work out. But you go with your gut, you go with what feels right. “You got to put your trust in the fact that you've ended up in the right place more often than not, with the right people at the right time, whether that's producers, band mates, creative people, while you're working on a project or writing songs or making a record. Jerry Cantrell on his mindset when working on a new record I guess what's a good way to say it, that the game is the same but the venue and the players are different.” It wasn't the time for me to be working on ideas for Alice, it was the time to make a record on my own. And any of this probably could have been involved in that process. If Alice in Chains had been in a creative process where we had made a decision to make a record, you can go through the demo process and work some stuff up and bring in ideas and build them up and tear them down. It's more just determined on the time and the intent. “I'm not really compartmentalized as far as what is for Alice and what is for a solo record. Jerry Cantrell on balancing being a member of Alice in Chains and his solo work And they're like, ‘That's fucking killer, play it again.’” And I'm like, "Oh yeah, what, something like this?" and I just drew my pick across the strings and then did a band a couple of times. It was a smart-ass reaction to something I was feeling or whatever. And I don't know, I was pissed off for something. “You never know when where inspiration is going to strike… and that riff in particular (‘It Ain’t Like That’), to show you just how whimsical it is and how inspiration can come from anywhere, I think we were in a rehearsal at our rehearsal room at the music bank underneath the Ballard Bridge, where the band started. The only difference is that this is the first time I've actually ever done a truly independent record. And we're always involved in every step of the way, from the album art to direction to what we want to do. “All our records, even the records that we've done in partnership with a record company or whatever, are very personal.
